Coleman's Dual Fuel 533 Camp stove

This little Gem can burn either no-lead gas or camp stove fuel (white Gas) from Coleman or other suppliers. Make sure you pump it up until it is difficult to pump anymore, before you light it. It is not easy to do once it is lit and you have a pot if boiling water on top of it. It gets hot, really hot but it takes a little while to warm up and turn the fuel from a liquid to a cleaner burning gas. The fuel passes thru the tube that passes over the burner to help accomplish this, but until it does heat up it spits and sputters.

Funnel with a built in filter and breather comes with the stove.

Oil all moving parts first and often

Pump it up before you light it. You do this by pulling out the pump stem and then put your thumb over the hole on the top and push in, remove thumb pull out and repeat.

You have to let it warm up first. as long as it is burning yellow it still isn't warm enough. Sure you can begin heating a pot at this stage but it will burn dirty and char the side of the pot. Once it is warmed up (2 minutes) you can adjust the flame to where you feel you need it by turning the red lever. These can melt a dry lightweight aluminum pot so keep something in it and run it only as hot as necessary for the contents.

Summary:

Great little stove for camping , hiking or cycling. Works in a moderate breeze and even a slight rain. Lights fairly easily ( a little scary the first couple of times). It is a bit heavy for long hikes but is fairly indestructive in cases of normal wear and tear. One of the nice things is you can stop in at any gas station to refill your fuel (Use only approved containers). You can boil about 6 gallons of water (not all at one time-Using a 2 quart pan with a lid and during warm weather ) on one tank of fuel, naturally you will have to stop and pump up the pressure from time to time. This one has a steel body but Coleman make a Featherlite unit which should function about the same but be a bit lighter to carry. We hope to get a chance to evaluate the one as well. Keep checking back.
