Whitewater Rafting

   Looks like fun!

The picture above says it all. Look at the fun and who is having it. This sport has really come into it's own since the sixties movie " The River of No Return " made in  the Jasper National Park in Canada.  These great rubber raft have been hurled against canyon wall in every part of the world and carried people of all ages and nationalities. Normally you go through a short orientation, explaining what to expect and what to do and then you go. For the newbies the trips will likely be limited to Class II or III rapids, but the the most experienced or darish, have been known to take on Class V water. What is the difference you ask? About the same as a stirring cake mix with a hand operated egg beater, to making a frozen daiquiri in a blender on high setting. Makes you want to go right now doesn't it. I fyo ugo consider the following areas.

The Big Bend Ranch National Park in SW Texas  offers you some nice rafting opportunities that can be enjoyed by most everyone. The most popular section is from the Colorado Canyon put-in to the Madera Canyon take-out on Highway 170, a river distance of nine miles; floating on to Lajitas makes the run a total of 21 miles. Colorado Canyon is cut through igneous rock, unlike the three major park canyons, which are cut through limestone. This trip offers some fun rapids of Class II and Class III

We have an intense tutorial in our Survival trips section on "How to Make A Fire". It is worthwhile reading as it may save your life and if nothing else it is fun trying to emulate what is taught in this section.

Be cautious when in the wilds as Ticks and Chiggers can pose a serious problem.

The more you get to do a sport the more you will enjoy it. We have found that being prepared to leave at a moment notice will increase the number of time that you will actually get out and do it. Ultimately the best way to be prepared is to have all the necessary gear already stored in a "gear trailer". This is a trailer dedicated to this purpose. READ ON.
